Interview of Capt. Frank Paskewich, USCG, containing detailed descriptions of his activities relating to Hurricane Katrina rescue operations including: on 26 Aug. Paskewich began implementing hurricane plans to the newly established sector New Orleans including preparations for evacuating low-lying areas, and setting up the alternate command post in Alexandria, La.; by Sunday 28 Aug. he shut down the entire waterway under his command and sector began mobilizing small boats from all over the country and prepared air stations to be set and ready; positioned vessels in Baton Rouge, Sabine, and Abbeville, La., in preparation for search and rescue operations; managing between 60 to 80 people working with the Eighth District staff in Alexandria; and working with state officials and getting feedback from his liaisons in the New Orleans emergency operations center.
